Top Half Series 2008 - Round 2 - Tokoroa

The 2008 Top Half Series moved south to Tokoroa for Round 2. Ideal weather greeted the 130 plus drivers on Sunday and with class sizes not dropping dramatically from Round 1 several classes went oversubscribed.

Bay of Plenty Club has hit the lead in the inter-club competition.  Mt Wellington follows closely in second with Hamilton third.

The largest class on track was Junior Restricted with 23 entries and points were close.  Rhys Tinney took the win just one point from Aaron Wilson.  Aaron Marr was a further two points back, as was Bradley Hicks, with Marr taking the third spot on countback.

Wilson is holding the overall series lead from Hicks with Tinney sitting third.

Arie Hutton is still taking no prisoners in Junior Yamaha, dominating the class Junior Yamaha field.  In a clean sweep of all of his five starts he took the win from Mt Wellington clubmates Daniel Colville & Daniel Kinsman.  Hutton has now substantially extended his overall series points lead from Kinsman & Rex Edwards.

Cadet Class was another class running the extra heats to cater for the size of the class.  Round 1 winner, Thomas McLean, didn’t have all the running at this round but did manage to post some very quick lap times.  Hamilton’s Blake Filleul took the win from McLean with Chelsea Herbert in third.  McLean is currently holding top spot in the overall standings.

Ethan de Jong stepped up to the plate in Senior Yamaha Light; with no placing outside the top three he took the win from local David Meszaros and Mt Wellington’s Mat Kinsman.  Overall points in this class are extremely close with Meszaros and Kinsman sharing first place & de Jong just a couple of points back in third.

Auckland’s Kane Taylor made it two from two in Senior Rotax Light winning the round from an improving Ben Dallas.  Jake Pascoe finished third, just one point back, and Mike male was fourth.  Overall, Taylor has a commanding lead and Pascoe has moved up into the second spot.

Will Thomason, representing the Mt Wellington club, threw a spanner in the works in Senior Yamaha Heavy and the Top Half incumbents of previous years had no answer.  Thomason took the win with a clear points margin from Stuart Marshall & Dion Kendall.

Overall, Marshall retains his first place from the Auckland duo of Brendon Smith in second & Leyton Kendall third.

Consistency was the key for Peter Wrightson in senior Rotax Heavy, with no result outside the top three.  It was close in the points, but Wrightson prevailed & took the days honours from Mike Grimshaw & Bradley Alexander.  In the overall standings Grimshaw still holds the lead.

Tom Blomqvist repeated his round one results to the letter - four wins and a second - taking the round two win from Ben Drummond and Scott Reddish.  The overall standings to date reflect this exact same result.
