Top Half 2004 Round 2 Report  - Hamilton 14th March 2004

TOP HALF ROUND 2 HAMILTON 14/03/04

The drivers arrived in large numbers with a total of 153 entries.  The racing as expected was fast on the near new surface with laps slowly approaching the Nationals 2003 times.  Unfortunately for the promoters the large numbers and the extra class (the 125?s ran with the open in Taumarunui) meant the finals were not run.  Obviously the drivers were disappointed but due to time restraints at the track (we know there is an airport over the road) the host club had no option.

Cadet

Levi Madsen ? Prinn just continued his good form of Round 1 by winning all 4 heats.  His speed and control left his opposition wondering where he went.  After his nasty accident last weekend Levi showed no hesitation in his moves and his form is good.  Aaron Hodgson put his little hand up and was the best of the rest.  Hodgson finished with two seconds and a third.  Arie Hutton?s improvement continued with a well-deserved 3rd.  Arie now moves into 2nd place overall after Levi.  Daniel Kinsman had a day he would rather forget after Taumarunui.  Other improvers were Shaun Nicholson and Daniel Colville.

James Stead took the first heat; Tyler Richardson took the second, Daniel Mezaros the third and Ben Dallas the fourth.  The little gladiators were close all day.  Throw in Todd Sherley, Mathew Kinsman, Henry Thomas ? Kircher and Tim Vickers having one of his better meetings and the Nationals could go anyway.  David Mezaros took the day from Ben Dallas, from James Stead and Tyler Richardson.

Junior

Michael Burdett ? after a slow start took 3 of the 4 wins of the day.  Nick Sandstad took heat 1 but Andrew Waite, Mr Consistent, took four seconds and still leads the overall series.

Caine Lobb, another driver who missed the first round managed a creditable 5th.

Interesting is Mt Wellingtons drivers sit in the top 5 places overall.

Junior Development

Jake the man Pascoe didn?t dominate as he did in Taumarunui.  Daniel McMillan from Tokoroa with three wins was the stand out performer with a solid performance from Dion Melville for 3rd.  Richard Andrews was another driver to excel with a fine win in heat 2.
