CARLYLE, TYRRELL & GRANT BACK ON TOP

Another year, another Top Half Series and another set of class-winning performances from Jared Carlyle, Bradley Tyrrell and Ryan Grant.

That pretty much sums up the first round of the 2006 series, hosted by the Bay of Plenty Kart Club at their Fagan's Valley Raceway at Te Puke on Sundayn February 5.

Local hero and acknowledged Fagan's Valley Raceway master Jared Carlyle made no race of Rotax Max Heavy leading home Phillip Saunders, Stuart Gould and Brent Murgatroyd.

Tokoroa's Bradley Tyrrell was similarly dominant in Senior 100cc Yamaha Light, making it two class wins in two weekends after a similar performance at KartSport Auckland's City of Sails meeting the weekend before.

At Te Puke he led home Matt Bambery, Ben Dallas and Deon Forrest.

Senior 100cc Yamaha Heavy saw the welcome return to the top spot of Mt Wellington club stalwart Stuart Marshall with Leyton Kendall second and Hamilton's Steven Davies third.

In Open Ryan Grant was back on top after having to concede second place to arch-rival Jason Lee at the City of Sails meeting. At Te Puke however he was not to be denied the victory, claiming the top step of the podium from former Rotax Max front-runner Daniel Kent, Lee and Ryan Urban.

Young Aucklander Kane Taylor was another two weekend winner in Rotax Max Light, taking up at Te Puke where he left off at his home track the weekend before.

In a repeat of the City of Sails result Charles Hoare from Whangarei was second. Michael Grimshaw was third, Simon Evans fourth.

In the Junior classes there was a good win for young third generation Auckland driver Mathew Kinsman in Junior 100cc Yamaha from fellow Aucklanders James Stead and Henry Thomas-Kircher, and a local win for Daniel Dufty - from Chris Hanley and Richard Moore in Junior National.

Arie Hutton was the winner from visiting South Island champion Chris Cox and Mitchell Evans in Junior 100cc Yamaha Restricted, with Bradley Hicks continuing his strong run of form to win Cadet from Ben Drummond and Paul Blomqvist - all three from Auckland's Mt Wellington club.
