Thanks to perfect weather and air temperature conditions at the KartSport Mt Wellington club championships, three of the five classes contested on day one led to new lap records being set!
For KartSport Mt Wellington members to see their name on the Honours Board is something to be proud of. As one of the largest membership clubs with one of the tightest tracks in the country the challenge is not any easy one to achieve. Everything must be at its best on the day to gain this honour and with this challenge to aim for the club has produced many National Champions along the way.
The two Rotax Classes were the feature of the day with both Champions backing up their 2007 wins.
Ryan Hellier, fresh out of Juniors last year was the winner in Rotax Light in 2007 and proved his ability yet again in achieving the 2008 title in a count back with Mathew Kinsman for 1st. Simon Evans looked like a contender early on breaking the lap record in heat one, however, it was not to be his day and Ryan secured his place in the class and has proved he is one of the top drivers in this field.
Brent Murgatroyd must also be called a master of Mt Wellington winning the Rotax Heavy class for the third consecutive year.
Daniel Kinsman secured his position in the Junior Yamaha Class by winning all four heats and setting a new track record along the way.
It was a close contest in the Club Class with the win going to Bruce Reid on a count back from Louise Franklin, and Gary Taylor setting a new lap record.
Daniel Bray won both the Open and KZ2 titles
In the 20 lap invitation Snow Nielson Memorial race Daniel Bray again showed his dominance of the day and was delighted to win a Memorial Trophy for the first time.
