WALL AND LOBB ARE HEROES AT CIK TROPHY KART MEETING
Australian Matthew Wall and young New Zealand driver Caine Lobb were the heroes in the glamour Formula 100 class on the second day of competition at the 2005 CIK Trophy of New Zealand presented by Karcher meeting at Hamilton's RV Wholesale Supplies Raceway today.
Wall continued his domination of the Formula 100 , despite conceding victory in the third heat to countryman Jason Hryniuk.
He was back to his winning ways in the Pre-Final, leading home top New Zealand prospect Joshua Hart and Hryniuk, then won the Final - despite a reputation-making performance by young Whangarei driver Lobb.
Lobb drove the race of his life to battle with Wall and New Zealand international Mitch Cunningham for much of the race. Cunningham led for a couple of laps but Lobb was back in front when the flag came out, crossing the line sandwiched between weekend pace-setter Wall and Cunningham.
The action had been just as fast and furious in the Pre-Final, giving the large crowd more than their money's worth, with Wall and Joshua Hart virtually crossing the line together with Hryniuk and William Thomason in a similar form finish just behind,
Junior Intercontinental A was a Matthew Wooding benefit, the young Hamilton driver completing a rare clean sweep to set the fastest time in qualifying and win the three heat races, the Pre-Final and the Final - the latter from young Aucklander Andrew Waite and Tyler Richardson.
ICC was the domain of Auckland's Ryan Grant who won both the Pre-Final and Final from Hamilton's David Pinkerton and Whangarei's Dan Smith.
In the senior Challenge Cup support classes, Michael Wheaton from Auckland won Rotax Max Light and Wellington's Karl Wilson won 100cc Yamaha Light.
Meanwhile in the Junior races Junior 100cc Yamaha was won by Auckland's Ben Dallas, 100cc Junior Restricted by Wellington's Jamie McNee and Cadet by Auckland's Arie Hutton.
