The Auckland Area Schools Kartsport Championships were held at Kartsport Auckland's The Pallet Company Raceway on Sunday April 6th with record entries in the Cadet and Junior Restricted classes.
Brother and sister duo Joel and Chelsea Herbert flew the flag for the composite team of Albany Primary/Albany Junior High, successfully taking out the Primary/Intermediate Teams section.
Bucklands Beach Intermediate (Bradley Hicks, Matthew Wilson) placed second with St Kentigern School (Paul Blomqvist, Shaun Grocock) in third.
The College Teams section results are still provisional; the current standing are Kings College (Richard Moore, Arie Hutton) first, St Kentigern College (Jake Pascoe, Scott Reddish) second and Auckland Grammar School (Tom Blomqvist, Mitchell Pykett) in third.
Class by class, Joel Herbert went one better than last year winning the Cadet Class from Peter Goldstone in second and sister Chelsea in third.
Meanwhile Junior Restricted, the largest class on the track with 22 entries, saw Bucklands Beach Intermediates Bradley Hicks literally carve up the opposition and take the title with an eleven point margin from Aaron Wilson. CJ Sinclair finished in third and Stephen Kelly, back from an extended break from karting finished fourth.
The drive of the day came from Howick College's Daniel Kinsman who flew around the Auckland circuit in the first heat of Junior Yamaha. Kinsman breaking the lap record for this class in four consecutive laps. Kinsman took the 2008 title from Daniel Colville and Arie Hutton.
The Formula Junior Class saw Kinsman repeating his Junior Yamaha performance. Another lap record and another clean sweep, winning from Tom Blomqvist and Matt Hollier.
Senior Rotax Light, although a small field was one of quality. The racing was so close that at the end of the day Jake Pascoe, the 2007 winner of this class, and Richard Moore could not be separated and tied for first place. Tim Vickers finished just one point back in third spot.
The results for this class are also still provisional.
