ST KENT'S WINNING STREAK CONTINUES

Who can stop St Kentigern College? That's the question Auckland's school-age karters are asking after a third successive win by the school at the annual Auckland Schools' KartSport Championship meeting at KartSport Auckland's Pallet Company Raceway on Sunday.

St Kentigern teams finished first and second equal at this year's championship meeting, with Ben Dallas and Simon Evans giving their school its third win in four years with clean-sweep performances in the Senior 100cc Yamaha Light (Dallas) and 125cc Rotax Max Light (Evans) classes.

Underlining their superiority, a second St Kentigern pairing, Scott Fountain and Andrew Waite, tied for second place overall with St Albert Grammar School duo Alan Dunkley and Dillon Grant.

Fountain finished third overall in 125cc Rotax Max Light, Waite third in Senior 100cc Yamaha Light, while Dunkley and Grant finished second and fourth respectively in Senior 100cc Yamaha Light.

Only in the Primary and Intermediate schools section did the region's other schools get a look in, Somerville Intermediate claiming the win courtesy Aaron Hodgson and Christopher (CJ) Sinclair.

Hodgson finished third in Junior Restricted 100cc Yamaha, Sinclair fourth in Cadet.

Individual class winners were Parnell District School's Paul Blomqvist (Cadet), St Kent's Prep's Mitchell Evans (Junior Restricted 100cc Yamaha), Howick College's Mathew Kinsman (Junior 100cc Yamaha, Rutherford College's Graeme Smyth (Formula Junior), and St Kentigern's Ben Dallas (Senior 100cc Yamaha Light) and Simon Evans (125cc Rotax Max Light).

This year's Auckland Schools' Championship attracted a record 93 entries over six classes from schools and colleges throughout the greater Auckland area (Warkworth to Pukekohe) and provided an excellent form guide for the upcoming KartSport New Zealand National Schools Championships in Blenheim over the July 8/9 weekend.

The event was co-hosted by Mt Albert Grammar and in his opening address Principal Mr Dale Burden spoke about the value of sport and sportsmanship in schools.
