KSMW Field Four Applicants to the Motorsport New Zealand Academy
Motorsport New Zealand holds an annual Elite Academy where young racers from the myriad of motorsport codes are invited to participate. A dozen spots are available for prospective attendees and one of these spots is always held for a Karter. The Academy has hosted the likes of Shane Van Gisbergen, Jono Lester and current club member Aaron Hodgson. Last year, club member and multiple New Zealand Champion Daniel Kinsman was invited to attend after excelling in the interview process, where he eventually placed second in the aggregate scoring.
The attendees are tested and scored on all aspects of physical fitness prior to and on attending the camp
"Workshops covering mental skills training, decision making, managing heat stress and correct hydration, nutrition, public speaking/media, creating the ideal team environment, performance planning, sponsorship proposal preparation, reading and understanding data as well as daily physical training routines provide and all encompassing week of learning designed to test and sometimes stretch attendees mental and physical limits." (MSNZ Website)
This year four club Alumini applied for the Academy. New Zealand Rotax Light Number 2, Daniel Connor, NZ KF2 Champion, Arie Hutton, and top seniors Shane Hodgson and Sean Grocock all applied for positions and their marks topped the scoring matrix, out pacing their peers in "real" race cars. One unspecified member even netted the best ever interview score.
According to the interviewers, all members conducted themselves in an outstanding fashion and are a credit to themselves and our club.
Motorsport New Zealand is yet to release their list of attendees, though as a club we wish our attending members the very best!

Tech Nights
Our first Tech night is planned for the Cadet Class
John Kelly has kindly offered to assist with the technical and information night which will be held at the club rooms. The early arrival of their Baby, Max forced a date reschedule !
The first in the series will focus on the Raket 85 engine, specifically, what is required for teching. Many newcomers have never been through a full tech - in fact, some have been racing for quite some time and don't know what is required, so for newbies or stalwarts, come along and find out more.
7pm on Wednesday 23rd May
We plan to organise informative nights for other classes as well as other topics including chassis setup and data analysis
Please contact Jared Lawson with any suggestions on what you and others would find useful.
